This is the text of a letter received from HMV by a customer after he complained that the Dido CD that he had bought was 'copy protected' disc and could not be converted to MP3s. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Dear Mr XXXXXX Thank you for your letter regarding your visit to our Watford Store. I am sorry you were unable to generate MP3's of the Dido CD as a result of it being copy protected. The decision to copy pt protected CD's is taken by the record companies themselves of which we have no control over. Whilst in the past different companies have used different protection softwares and symbols to denote copy protection, it is becoming common practice now to use the industry standard "play" symbol to indicate protection and this can be found on the reverse of the CD, generally towards the bottom. I would be happy to issue you with a full refund for the CD if you wish on this occasion. Please return it to me at the address below, together with your receipt. Any postage costs will be reimbursed. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience or disappointment and I hope you will continue to enjoy shopping with us. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
