Fan to receive compensation for copy-protected CD

(Monday, 30th July, 2003)

Sao Paulo - EMI and Sony music were sentenced to pay R$ 1000 [about U$
400] to Paulo Henrique Coelho de Andrade because its CD (Tribalistas),
with copy protection, refused to play on his car CD player.

Andrade got his CD exchanged, for one without the protection, said the
site Samba&Choro, which said the court victory was a first instance
only decision ...

In the sentence, the judge Paulo Roberto Sampaio Janguita said that he
endorses the resolution of record companies to fight back piracy, but
said: "What cannot be conceived is that, on the pretext of avoiding
fraud, the record companies start to market products which by
themselves are difficult to be used by the customers".

... A new audience for reconciliation is scheduled for the next
Septemper, 2th.
