This is one person's experience of using Radiohead's "Hail to the Thief" on his PC. It seems that the software that the CD attempts to install does more than simply enable the player app. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - [...] I put the CD into the computer nad instead of Media Player popping up to play it as usual I got a message that said that to play the CD I need to install some software first. I pushed Cancel because the message did not say what software and I smelled a rat. Anyway, I tried to rip the CD using MusicMatch and that worked just fine. I managed to rip all the tracks individually into MP3 format and they all sound just fine. The CD also played fine on MusicMatch and Media Player (although Media Player took some time seeking the CD). Later, as an experiment, I installed the software and this rather cheesy player pops up whenever I pop in the CD. And now I could rip using MusicMatch but very very slowly. Slower than 1x. Finally, I uninstalled the player and I could rip as normal as before. The only difference is that Windows Media Player does not play the first track as it used to but plays the other tracks. MusicMatch still plays the CD as normal, as it does on regular CD players I have. I'm using Windows XP professional on a Pentium 3 machine.
